Works of art transported to StartPoint exhibition by AWT Čechofracht

Fourteen works of art from seven European countries have been transported to prestigious exhibition StartPoint, held at Brno’s Wannieck Gallery, by AWT Čechofracht. The company is acting as the official transporter of the exhibition for the fifth year running. Once a second rendering of the exhibition concludes in Cheb, western Bohemia, at the beginning of next year, AWT Čechofracht will return the pieces to their respective countries of origin.

The StartPoint exhibition, featuring graduation works by students of art academies, is organised by the Arbor vitae Foundation. “Our project creates not only a unique running documentary of the emerging generation of artists, but also a broad network of new contacts and a platform for further encounters. Thanks to AWT Čechofracht’s broad logistics network and favourable prices, collaborating with the company proves beneficial and that is why we have turned to them once more to be our transport partners,” explained Pavel Vančát, the project’s curator.

It is not the first time that AWT Čechofracht has transported non-standard, fragile objects, works of art, or cultural items. For example, the company secured the transport of musical instruments and necessary technology from Prague to Cyprus for the National Theatre Orchestra. It has also transported “Entropa”, the provocative work by David Černý, made for the occasion of the Czech Republic's EU presidency, and artefacts created at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, which travelled to an applied design show in Milan, Italy.

“This time, we shipped 14 works from the United Kingdom, France, Greece, Germany, Spain, Romania and Poland to StartPoint. All of the items arrived safely at our warehouse in Prague at the beginning of October, after which they were transported en masse to Brno, to the exhibition venue,” said Alice Rybářová, AWT Group Non-rail Sales Director. Where such shipments are concerned, packaging is always of paramount importance, she added. “The exhibits themselves are made from various materials, they may be fragile and of shapes that are quite different from those of regular consignments. They therefore require careful handling, especially during loading and unloading,” Rybářová concluded.

The STARTPOINT: PRIZE FOR EMERGING ARTISTS 2011 exhibition is at the Wannieck Gallery, Brno, until 4 December. It is open from Friday to Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Now in its ninth year, the exhibition displays works from 34 prestigious art academies in 19 European countries. A three-member jury at each of the participating schools selects a graduation work to be displayed and an international jury then proceeds to award the main prize, and to recognise several contenders with honorary mentions, on the opening day of the exhibition. All of the awarded artists receive invitations the following year to participate in the Started residential project, culminating in a joint exhibition. The winner of the main prize also enjoys the opportunity to publish a catalogue of their works. This year, Tommy Hovik from Norway was announced as the winner in Brno. More information on the exhibition is available at www.startpointprize.eu.
